Companies Office a step closer to 'one number, one home' for Kiwi businesses
The New Zealand Companies Office is a step closer to bringing all Kiwi businesses together on the one registry system.
In October this year the Limited Partnerships Registers were moved to the Business Registers platform – already home to sole traders, partnerships, trusts and public sector entities.
“We’re on the way to creating one place where all New Zealand businesses are registered, making it easier for those businesses (and the organisations who support them) to keep their records up to date and to comply with legislation,” says Lawrence Wells, National Manager, Business Registries.
“At the same time we’re improving access to information, which is key for a well-functioning regulatory system.”
All limited partnerships registered on Business Registers will from now on have the New Zealand Business Number (NZBN) as their primary identifier.
The NZBN will eventually replace the legacy numbers for limited partnerships, and all other business entities. A unique form of identification, the NZBN links to key information businesses are most often required to share, meaning they don’t have to repeat this information multiple times.
“We want our customers to spend less time on compliance and more time on their business,” says Mr Wells.
It’s now easier than ever to access the Limited Partnerships Registers. All limited partnerships customers have to do is go to Business Registers (www.businessregisters.govt.nz), the new home of limited partnerships, and log in with their RealMe username and password.
Limited partnerships customers can now enjoy a number of new features and services that include:
- An online dashboard that displays all limited partnerships at glance (when authority to manage limited partnerships is in place)
- Online registration, maintenance and filing of annual returns
- The ability to manage both general partners’ and limited partners’ details
- The ability to change the annual return filing month
- Cross-register and role search
- The ability to download limited partnerships’ certificates and extracts.
Some of these are only available to customers with right permissions.
Additionally, there’s now a dedicated phone line (0508 762 438) and an email address (firstname.lastname@example.org) available for customers needing to get in touch with the Companies Office.
