Institute of Certified NZ Bookkeepers

Direct from the President's desk

Hello Members.  Well I thought winter had hit with a vengeance a few weeks ago but it seems I was wrong.  The weather has been rather balmy here in Northland lately – t-shirt weather would you believe.  I’m sure the cold will descend on us all in Mother Nature’s own good time but in the meantime, I am making the most of the sunny days.

Did you take some time in May to rest reflect and refocus?  I certainly did.  My scheduled week off consisted of flying to Christchurch and heading over to Akaroa for a few days.  What a wonderful little winter getaway that was.  Lots of walking in the fresh crisp air, switching off from phones, work and social media, lazing on the bed with a good book and I think I even got a nap or two in.  It was just what this mind and body needed.  We also spent a couple of days catching up with hubby’s family down that way which was wonderful for the soul.  The other great thing was I managed to get two of my team to take some time out that month too, before we ramp up to deal with the next influx of GST returns, new clients, new strategy to implement and continuous learning opportunities.  Everyone is refreshed and ready to go.

Which leads me into the ICNZB’s main focus for the next six weeks – Our Conference, Bookkeepcon18.  We are really excited to be delivering a wonderful conference to you, our members, in the dairy farming capital, Hamilton.  We have an amazing two days planned with incredible speakers, industry updates and information that is aimed at you, our bookkeeping community.  We also have some amazing sponsors on board for which we are truly grateful.

Are we going to see you there?  There is a great post on the closed Facebook page for anyone wondering how they are going to get to Hamilton if they are flying into Auckland.  You can either fly to Hamilton or catch an intercity bus ($20) and… members have even offered to give rides!  That is amazing, I am so blown away.  THAT is what our awesome bookkeeping community is all about.  Thank you so much to those who have offered.  Make sure you check it out on our closed group.

The Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Finance Terrorism Act (AML/CFT) is big in our space and coming into effect with bookkeepers and accountants from 1st October 2018.  We need to be prepared before then.  To assist you in your obligations, the ICNZB aim to provide as much information as possible.  The DIA will be at our conference delivering a presentation on this and delivering roadshows around the country.  Have you booked into one of their roadshows?  If not, check it out here.  We are working on how we can support you more and will advise as information comes to hand.

Again, a huge thank you to my team of committee members and staff, for the tremendous amount of hard work going on.  And to you, our members, for your time, energy and input into making this Association great.  Keep talking about the Association, keep promoting the importance of certification, keep sharing your stories with us and keep up the awesome work.
