Last week I attended a Leaders Summit on Driving Payroll run by the NZ Payroll Practitioners Association in Wellington. I found that a lot of the attendees were employees for large organisations which was interesting, and the summit was around driving change within organisations. There was a lot of great content delivered during the two days, and I thought I would share one of the sessions with you.
Be Strategic – Strategic People actively spend time thinking about strategy. Actually block out time in your day/week/month to actively think strategically. Allow yourself that time to consider that new project you have been asked to take on, or that offer which will take you in a new direction, or how to go to the next level in your business or bookkeeping journey. When do we ever do this? Bookkeepers are busy doing the doing, but how often do we make space to breathe and put some conscious thought into strategic thinking. It certainly made me think about blocking out some time each week in my diary to do this.
The De Bono six thinking hats method was discussed as part of this process, which intrigued me. It's a powerful technique for looking at decision making from different perspectives. It allows emotion and scepticism to be brought into the normally rational thinking process, and you can morph your ideas into something different or more substantial when you impose a new perspective by using the six different ‘hats’ to look at it. If you wish to know more about this, check out the wikipedia website.

If you have chosen to reduce and omit tasks that put you into the AML regime, please ensure you have a Risk Assessment document stating this. A big thank you to Trish Madison for sharing her experiences and expertise via webinar for our members this month.
