Governance of the Association

Ensuring our members have the support, ability to increase their knowledge and stay up to date with the key information at the forefront of everything we do.  To help achieve this we have a team of passionate individuals leading the way.

Members of our Executive Committee are elected annually at the Association’s Annual General Meeting.  The membership vote to elect members to the roles of President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and Ordinary Members (x5). 

The Executive Committee are responsible for the governance of the Association and ensuring that all activities undertaken are to benefit our members, and the Association is run in accordance to the Constitution.

A key mandate of the management team is to give the Association strategic direction and to develop and drive association growth. This includes building and maintaining strong relationships with our strategic partners and likeminded associations. 

Our elected committee all run and direct their own successful businesses in the field of bookkeeping, and time given to the association is on a voluntary basis.

Elected Officers

At the Annual General Meeting held on 27 July 2019, our members elected the following officers for the 2019/2020 year:


The President is the figurehead of the Association and is key in the success of the organisation. They are the representative for all public occasions and are to ensure all standards are followed via the constitution.
The main responsibility of the position is to give strategic direction to the association and to develop and drive association growth. They will build and maintain strong relationships with strategic partners and oversee strategic activities with close liaison with the Vice President to ensure that all activity is aligned with the strategic plan and overall association strategy.


Di Crawford-Errington
Certified Bookkeeper™ (Gold), Northland

After initially joining the Board as Treasurer in 2013, this is Di's third term as President after taking over from our Founding President in 2016. Di is responsible for the Relationships portfolio and is tasked with developing and nurturing the relationships the association has with external stakeholders.

The Vice President is a key contributor to the development of the associations operational goals and delivering strategy.  In addition the Vice President is in charge of developing and implementing more sophisticated policies and procedures both in finance and general operational realms. This role is responsible for the achievement of the KPI’s in alignment with the association’s vision and direction.

Joanne Mankelow

After initially joining the Board in 2016, Jo was this year elected to the role of Vice President. Jo is responsible for the Education portfolio and manages our internal assessment programme and webinar schedule, as well as working with external stakeholders to develop and grow bookkeeping courses for our members.

The Treasurers role is responsible for maintaining an overview of the association’s financial affairs, to help ensure its financial viability. The Treasurer is to ensure that proper financial records and procedures are maintained in such a way that funding and sponsorship processes take place as needed. 


Sue Inkersell
Certified Bookkeeper™ (Gold), Wellington

Initially an ordinary member in 2015, Sue has been our Treasurer since 2016. Sue is responsible for the Marketing portfolio and provides direction to the admin team on marketing initiatives and activities to ensure we are recognised as a professional support network for NZ bookkeepers.

The Secretary provides administrative support to the President and Vice President and all other staff as necessary. Areas of coverage include Board of Director meetings, policies and procedures of the Association, and general administration assistance.


Julie Russell
Certified Bookkeeper™ (Green), Auckland

Our long standing secretary, Julie was first elected as the association secretary in 2014 having served a year as an ordinary member. Julie is responsible for the Finance portfolio and is tasked, in conjunction with the Treasurer, with ensuring the association remains fiscally responsible.

Ordinary members

Chris Mercer
Certified Bookkeeper™ (Silver), Waikato

Chris was elected to the board in 2019 as an ordinary member. In his first year on the Board, Chris has been given the task of managing our Events portfolio and is leading the team with the organisation of our 10th birthday celebration at #Bookkeepcon20.

Linda Klok
Certified Bookkeeper™ (Silver), Canterbury

Linda was first elected to the the Executive Committee in 2018 as an ordinary member.  was charged with leading our HR portfolio.  As part of the HR portfolio, she ensures that our employees are well looked after, and our health and safety requirements as an Association are met.

Lisa Martin

A longstanding board member, Lisa has been involved in the committee through various roles since 2011.  Having been the Vice-President since 2013, Lisa has recently stepped down to an ordinary member role where she is now leading the Regional Director team.

Zharna Welch
Certified Bookkeeper™ (Gold), Auckland

Zharna was first elected onto the Board in 2018 as an ordinary member. Tasked with managing our member services, Zharna liaises with our member benefit providers to ensure their offerings are current and relevant to our members, as well as helping being involved in the provision of templates for our members use.

Kiri Dower was successfully re-elected to the Board but due to a change in her circumstances, stood down immediately following her election. 

Acknowleding past committee members

Our association exists because of the dedication and drive of our founding Executive Committee. Their determination has been carried through the years by a number of passionate individuals who have presided on our Board.
