Institute of Certified NZ Bookkeepers

Setting industry standards

The ICNZB Annual Benchmark Survey is designed to gain insight into the bookkeeping industry, and the successes and challenges bookkeepers and the bookkeeping industry face.

The 2021 Industry Benchmark Survey was conducted over a 4 week period from 15 March to 9 April 2021.

The data from the survey has now been summarised into a Focus Report and speaks to 6 core areas of interest.  We believe these areas provide our audience with valuable insight into the current standing in the industry.

The 6 areas are:

  • Services provided
  • Hourly rates charged
  • Employment status
  • Length of time in business
  • Active clients
  • Length of time in industry

Following the effects of COVID-19 on the business environment, we have not been surprised to see the data trends we have - particularly the rise in offsite work by bookkeepers.

To find out more about those trends, download your copy of the report below.

But wait, there's more!

To supplement the 2021 Focus Report, we have also developed our first guide into charge and pay rates.

The Bookkeeper Charge/Pay Rates Guide for 2021 provides the average fees charged for various bookkeeping services, as well as the average pay rate for employees/contractors to bookkeeping businesses.

This type of information is regularly sought after within our membership, so the delivery of this data, which came from the Industry Benchmark Survey, is a significant step towards developing industry averages.

As this annual survey continues to progress and grow, we hope to provide even more beneficial and comparative data which can only increase the awareness of how bookkeepers are helping small business across New Zealand.

The 2022 Industry Benchmark Survey will be released in March 2022 and we strongly encourage your participation.
