The aim of the membership assessments is to ensure individuals seeking membership have demonstrated knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping principles, and how to perform regular bookkeeping functions.
This assessments recognises the competency of our individual members and is not a learning platform. ICNZB does not teach bookkeeping.
Our Provisional Membership is instant and does not require an individual to pass an assessment. If you would like to progress up the levels you will need to pass the assessment for each level.

The Certified Bookkeeper assessment
This is the assessment to become an ICNZB Certified Bookkeeper® and requires you to demonstrate knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping principles, and how to perform regular bookkeeping functions.
This assessment consists of 50 questions across varying topics:
- Accounting principles
- Accounts payable
- Accounts receivable
- Basic bookkeeping principles or practices
- Business structures
The timeframe for this assessment is 1 hour. You need to achieve a mark over 70% to pass.
The Master Bookkeeper assessment
This assessment requires you to demonstrate knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping principles, and how to perform more advanced level bookkeeping functions.
It consists of 30 questions which are a mixture of multi-choice and short answer across the following topics:
- Accounting Concepts and Terminology
- Payroll and Tax Types
- Internal Controls and Review Procedures
- Balance Sheet Analysis
- Profit and Loss Analysis
The timeframe for this assessment is 2 hours. You need to achieve a mark over 80% to pass.
About our assessments
- Registration permits you 1 attempt.
- There is a timeframe set for each assessment. A countdown timer will display advising you of your remaining time. The timer will not stop if you log out and back in again.
- These are online assessments, not e-learning courses.
